Summary

Discover how worldly wisdom is dwarfed by God’s divine wisdom. Dive into the beauty of truth.

Introduction

In a world bombarded with information and opinions, it can be easy to get caught up in the pursuit of worldly wisdom. We often find ourselves seeking answers in the news, gossip, the latest hit song, sports statistics, or stock market prices. The prophet Isaiah announces in Isaiah 9:6 that Jesus is sent to Earth as our Wonderful Counsellor, to bring supernatural wisdom, beyond human understanding. And the Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 3:18-23 that true wisdom can only be found in the Word of God.

Worldly Wisdom is Fleeting

Paul writes, “Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this worldโ€™s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise.” (1 Corinthians 3:18 NLT). The wisdom of this world is fleeting and often leads to confusion and emptiness. It may promise fulfilment, but it fails to satisfy our deepest longings.

God’s Wisdom is Eternal and Unchanging

On the other hand, the wisdom of God, revealed through his Word, is eternal and unchanging. It offers us guidance, comfort, and a true understanding of life’s purpose. When we prioritise seeking God’s wisdom over worldly wisdom, we find genuine fulfilment and lasting satisfaction.

Rejecting Worldly Wisdom for God’s Word

As believers, we are called to be discerning and to filter the information we consume through the lens of God’s Word. By immersing ourselves in Scripture, we gain insight into God’s character, his plans for our lives, and his perspective on the world. This wisdom equips us to make wise decisions, navigate challenges, and live in a way that honours God.

So, let us not be swayed by the ever-changing trends and opinions of the world. Instead, let us anchor ourselves in the unchanging truth of God’s Word. As we seek his wisdom, we will find ourselves growing in understanding, maturity, and a deeper relationship with him.

Reflection Question:

How can you prioritise seeking God’s wisdom in your daily life and make it a priority over worldly wisdom?
