The Same Yesterday Today and Forever

Summary

The death of Queen Elizabeth II leaves many of us feeling disoriented, as if everything has changed in an instant. The Bible reminds us that we continue to have a constant in our lives. Jesus is the same, whatever circumstances we face.

Life can change pretty quickly

It seems just a few weeks since we were celebrating the long life and reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Now she has passed away. It is the end of an era. Very many of us cannot remember another Sovereign. We are shocked, particularly as it happened so quickly. While she looked a little frail as she welcomed our new Prime Minister last Tuesday, nothing prepared us for the news a couple of days later.

The Queen has been such a constant in our lives that it can feel as if everything has changed in an instant. We feel disorientated and out of sync. As Christians, we continue to have a constant in our lives. God’s Word reminds us that:

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Hebrews 13:8 NLT

Jesus Christ was a constant in our Queen’s life and service. She would want us to hold on to him today and in the future.

Praying for our Late Queen and the Royal Family

In our worship at Maidenhead Salvation Army on Sunday we took the opportunity to thank God for Her Majesty the Queen, to celebrate her life of devoted service and to pray for King Charles III, the Queen Consort, their family, our nation, the Realms and the Commonwealth and to share together in our remembrance of her over our corps meal.

We continue to pray:

Gracious God, we give thanks
for the life of your servant Queen Elizabeth,
for her faith and her dedication to duty.
Bless our nation as we mourn her death
and may her example continue to inspire us;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
