Summary
Salvationists often speak of “Only the Best for the Highest”. But what does it mean to give God your best? How can I be sure I’m living up to my full potential?
What does it mean to give God your best?
When you give God your best, you are giving him something that is his. Everything belongs to him and he wants us to use it for his glory. So if you have talent, skills or gifts – use them for him! Don’t hold back because of fear or laziness; just do it! Whatever time we have on earth is a gift from God and should be used wisely while we are here on earth with Him so that when we get there in heaven we can say: “I did my best with what I had.”
Why are you here on earth?
Of course, it’s not always easy to give God your best. In fact, there are times when it seems like our best is not good enough. But when we look at what God expects from us, it becomes clear that He wants us to do our very best in every situation – not just some of the time or most of the time but all of the time!
That’s because He created us for a purpose:
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works” (Ephesians 2:10). We were made to serve Him and glorify Him by doing everything we do with excellence and excellence alone will bring glory back to Him who gave us life in the first place.
How can I give my best to God in any given moment?
The best way to give God your best is by being mindful. Be aware of what you are doing, why you are doing it, who you are with and how they are feeling. When we are mindful we can see the purpose in things and make good decisions based on our values rather than just reacting out of habit or impulse.
When we live our lives in this way then we will also be able to give God our best moment by moment because when we live mindfully then every moment becomes an opportunity for us to act in accordance with His plan for us instead of just reacting based on our own agendas or desires which may not always align with His will for our lives (or at least not yet!).
This week in Battle Drill devotionals, we focus on what it means to place God at the centre of our lives – our work, our rest and our worship.
There’s a new episode of Battle Drill Devotional every Monday through Friday.
