Our world says, “Love is God.” Put whatever you love in life – whatever makes you feel good – first, even if that means trampling over other people to do so. Our heavenly Father says differently.
The Bible says, “God is Love”. When we get this the right way around, when we truly know and love our heavenly Father, we learn not to live in selfishness, but to love with the love of God. Because God is love, the person who shares God’s love will love others with sacrificial love.
Knowing God’s love for us and our love for God is evident in how we treat others. That’s why Jesus encourages us to pray boldly, “forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.” He knows we cannot do this in any human power. But he knows that our Father in heaven, whose nature and essence is love, can give us the power, through his Holy Spirit, to forgive those who hurt us and cause us pain.
Think It Over
Think about the following:
• How is God’s love evident in the way you treat those who hurt you or cause you pain?
