The Cross is God’s Promise to Love You Forever

Today’s Battle Drill Devotional: The Cross is God’s Promise to Love You Forever   Then Jesus shouted out again, and he released his spirit. (Matthew 27:50)   Read Matthew 27:45-56. I continue to be perplexed by the fact that Christianity is symbolised by the cross, an instrument of execution. Can you imagine if our churches and corps had an electric chair on the wall at the front? Or if we wore a hangman’s noose around our necks. Or maybe the representation of a gun in our logos?   So why is the cross the symbol of our faith? Because it represents where God’s love intersects with his holiness. The cross is where God’s truth and justice meets his grace and mercy. By placing our sin on his Son, God was able to forgive us without lowering his standards.   John tells us that God’s love is wide enough to include the whole world (John 3:16). That includes you and me. But often we think there must be a limit to God’s love. Surely it must end somewhere. But the Bible is full of people who hit rock bottom but never found the end of God’s love. And neither will you. The cross proclaims that God will love you forever. No wonder they call today Good Friday!   THINK IT OVER Think about the following:Have you ever felt you must have reached the limit of God’s love for you? What happened?  These devotionals rely heavily on the book, He Chose the Nails by Max Lucado. © 2000 Max Lucado.   Unless otherwise indicated, all Scripture quotations are taken from the Holy Bible, New Living Translation, copyright 1996, 2004, 2007, 2015 by Tyndale House Foundation. Today’s Battle Drill Devotional: The Cross is God’s Promise to Love You Forever

Then Jesus shouted out again, and he released his spirit. (Matthew 27:50)

Read Matthew 27:45-56.

THINK IT OVER
