Introduction

Christmas is a time of joy and celebration, a time when we exchange gifts with our loved ones. We carefully choose presents that will bring smiles to their faces and show our love and appreciation. But have you ever stopped to think about the greatest Christmas present ever given?

The Best Christmas Present Ever

In the book of Luke, we find the story of the shepherds who were keeping watch over their flocks by night. Suddenly, an angel appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them. Can you imagine their fear and awe in that moment? But the angel reassured them, saying, “Don’t be afraid! … I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. (Luke 2:10, NLT).

What was this good news? The angel continued, “The Saviour—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!” (Luke 2:11, NLT). The shepherds were told that the long-awaited Messiah had finally arrived. And where was this Messiah? In a grand palace? No. He was lying in a humble manger, wrapped in swaddling clothes.

The Gift of Salvation

Jesus Christ is God’s Christmas present to us – the best Christmas present ever. Why? Because through Jesus, God gave us the gift of salvation. He sent his only Son to live among us, to teach us, to heal us, and ultimately, to die for us. Jesus came to bridge the gap between God and humanity, to offer us forgiveness and eternal life.

An Unopened Gift is Worthless

But here’s the thing: a Christmas gift never opened is worthless. We can have the most amazing gift in front of us, but if we don’t choose to receive it, it remains untouched and unused. The same is true for God’s gift of salvation. He offers it to us freely, but we must make the choice to accept it.

Open Your Heart to Jesus This Christmas

Reflect on your life for a moment. Have you received God’s gift of salvation? Have you opened your heart to Jesus and allowed him to be the Lord of your life? If not, this Christmas season is the perfect time to do so. Don’t let the greatest gift ever given go unopened in your life.

As you celebrate Christmas this year, remember the true reason for the season. Jesus Christ is God’s Christmas present to us – the best Christmas present ever. Choose to receive his gift of salvation and experience the joy, peace, and eternal life that only he can give.

Reflection Question:

Have you received God’s gift of salvation – the best Christmas Present ever? If not, what is holding you back from accepting it?
