This week we focus on the life of the early church. They lived differently to those around them. What does that have to say to the church and to Christians today?
Read Acts 2:42-47. If you knew the cure for cancer, what would you do? You’d tell people! We have the cure for humanity’s broken relationship with God that means people don’t have to spend eternity separated from him. Whilst there is one person we know who doesn’t know and follow Christ, we need to keep reaching out.
Our church needs to keep trying to grow. As long as there are people in our community who need to know Jesus, we have to keep trying to grow. That’s not just my responsibility as a Salvation Army officer and church leader, it’s the responsibility of every local leader, every member and every Christian.
The early church, because it lived differently to those around them, because it was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, grew and grew and grew. Luke tells us in Acts 2:47 that the Lord added to their fellowship each day. That must have been uncomfortable! Adding more people to your church means mess. It means chaos. It means change! Some churches stop trying to grow because of this. They stop inviting those they know to church, and slowly the church dies. Don’t let your church be one of them. Help your friends find Jesus. Tell them the Good News today!
