Today’s Battle Drill Devotional: Humility is the Path to Transformation

Read Lamentations 3:1-33. Embracing our pain and loss and learning to wait on God can lead to great transformation in our lives. Jeremiah is able to let go of any need for control and to embrace the grief he felt about Jerusalem’s fate. As he did so he rediscovered his hope in God. He was able to reclaim God’s faithful love. He could once again declare his faithfulness and mercy. God blesses him superabundantly as he follows the difficult path of allowing his losses to transform him.

The central message of the gospel is that it is suffering and death that bring resurrection and lasting change. Our losses are real. Our pain is real. But so is God. Embracing our losses enables us to enjoy a more intimate, loving relationship with God. As we grieve with him, we are changed forever. My prayer is that each one of us will choose to take this journey of faith, and that like Jeremiah, we will still dare to hope that God’s faithful love never ends. That whatever our circumstances, we can hold on to the truth that his faithfulness is great and his mercies never fail. Let’s choose to wait patiently and quietly for his salvation. God bless you!

THINK IT OVER

  • How might your pain and losses help you to love others as Jesus did?
