Today’s Battle Drill Devotional: Honour the Women in Your Life

Read Proverbs 31:10-31. We began this week by discovering these verses are a poem, not a job description. That these words show us how we should do the things we do, not what we should do. They are about our character, not about our deeds.

In these twenty-two verses, there is only one command, one instruction, and it’s for the men: “Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise” (Proverbs 31:31). When you see a godly woman living out the values and characteristics listed in Proverbs 31, praise her. Honour her and ask others to do the same. Actually, we can all do that.

And whilst the command isn’t explicit, I believe there is an instruction here for women too: be a woman of valour. Remember that valour isn’t about what you do, it’s about the way you do it. Whether you’re an office worker, nurse, teacher, in ministry in your church, retired, rich, poor, single, married, mother or childless — do it all with valour. Exhibit strong godly character in all that you do. Actually, we can all choose to do that too, can’t we. After all, it is your character that defines you, not what you do.

THINK IT OVER

Think about the following:

  • What is one area of your life, such as finances, parenting, relationships, career, where you feel you could show more valour?
